That goes to Palo Alto, so says CNNMoney in its August 2010 edition of Best Places to live.

However, Newport ranks No. 2 in the nation for costly digs.

Reid Leads Passage of Bill to Extend Closing Deadline for First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit June 30, 2010 Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today led the U.S. Senate in passing the Homebuyer Assistance and Improvement Act. For the calendar month of May, 53 of O.C.’s 83 ZIP codes had gains in their respective median selling price. Overall, prices were +9.8% vs. a year ago.

60 of 83 O.C. ZIP’s had year-over-year sales gains in the period.

40 local ZIP’s had both sales gains and price gains in the period. (Highlighted in green)

The Kiplinger Report for May 2010 is coming out with great information. “Prices are near bottom, rates are cheap and there are plenty of houses to choose from” states Pat Mertz Esswein.

Of course we have been preaching this for a while. For some of our buyers, the opportunity is already gone. They are or will very soon be priced out of the market with multiple offers, rising median prices and inventory low in several of our coastal OC areas. Especially the under $1.5M market is becoming a seller’s market again.
